Fire and Water

The past couple of weeks the Kindergarteners and I have been getting to know our colors...

We have been learning the Color Wheel, the Primary colors, and how we mix them, as well as identifying our moods and feelings with the colors.

In our process of Getting to Know Our Colors, we split the Wheel in half, first talking about our "Hot/Fire" colors, then our "Cool/Water" colors...

For this assignment we used the Hot colors (red, orange, yellow) to make Fire, and then the Cool colors (green, blue, purple) to make water. This was our first introduction to paint of the year so I encouraged them to really use the paint to make us FEEL Fire or FEEL Water.... always noticing how many different ways we all interpret the same idea.

Here you can see us during our painting process and below you will find a select few masterpieces that show our understanding of colors, painting, and the elements :)

We were so successful with our paintings and our understanding of Hot and Cold colors that we brainstormed feelings and emotions we might identify with each color group and had an opportunity to tell our own Hot and Cold "Stories"....
