The Tape Project 2

The Tape Project was our very first post at WE-MAKE-MARKS. Join us for our second go round. This time we started with a white canvas and black tape. We noticed that with just the black on white our project would resemble a drawing like we were used to making at home or in class :)

Our Artist of the Week, William Onyeabor (Nigeria, 1970's)

Day One.

Day Two.

After we completed our large "drawing" in the previous class we took a good long look at what we had made and then received a smaller copy of our own to finish as we pleased...

Then we turned them into larger paintings....

Day Three.

When we returned to the large drawing we added colored tape together. This time we made sure to only take what we could carry in order to avoid destroying our materials...

Day Four.

Even though we were all very happy with our drawing after we added color, we added MORE color and sealed it all in with a nice coat of mod-podge!

Until next time!

BAND TOGETHER featuring Ron Rege Jr. and his Cartoon Utopia!

Now that this Election Week is coming to a close we are hoping we can Band Together and really pay attention to what is important to us. We are sending our well wishes to the East Coast and hoping for a strong recovery. Our Earth increasingly needs our consideration, the most important lady of our lives :)

Friend and Artist Ron Rege Jr. donated some drawings for us to color in from his recently released book The Cartoon Utopia..... Join in and send your love and support across the globe!

Stay tuned for our own Utopias. We are each currently working to create the world we would like to see when we grow up...

Emotion Masks

This week we learned how to create different facial expressions using the eyebrows and the mouth. We then created Emotion Masks where we made masks meant to really share certain emotions and express ourselves. Our masks are Inspired by the beautiful Omo Valley tribe of Ethiopia captured in Hans Silvester's book Natural Fashion: Tribal Decoration from Africa, who express themselves everyday using the environment around them.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS.
