WE-ARE-DANCE-MACHINES and WE-SET-THE-STAGE

(A big THANK YOU to Marvin Gaye for his soul shakin' marks!)

After we got our souls and bodies all warmed up we created small foil people for us really take a good look at all the moves we could make....

... Then we began decorating the stage we would like to dance on...

In the next class we took a quick look at some paintings by artist Keith Haring. We looked at how simply we could draw our bodies, showing plenty of color, movement, spirit and imagination... (a big THANK YOU to Keith Haring for his mind-bending marks!)

From here we continued to decorate and set our stages,
for making moves and drawings too!

DANCE OFF.

We celebrate all spirits, alive or no longer. We are grateful and WE-MAKE-MARKS.

THANK YOU!

APPLE BRAINS for your Ears!!

From the Kids Music That Rocks blog:

With the innocent enthusiasm of Jonathan Richman, the eclectic inventiveness of Mr. David, and the general kookiness of The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, Apple Brains bursts upon the kids' music scene with their debut album Get Fruity!!

L.A.-based Allen Bleyle is the brainy apple behind Apple Brains, and his free-for-all, lo-fi, indie rock style is a refreshing addition to the children's music world. Get Fruity!! is a concept album of sorts, with every track highlighting fruits, vegetables, water, and healthy eating in general. But this isn't a preachy, stick-in-the-mud, instructional album by any means: Peanut Butter and Jelly show up as characters who tell the story of how they met; a little girl carries around a mango like a baby; a little boy weeps at the wonderfulness of tomatoes. Far Out!

Hey Folks! For those of you who don't already know, our very own Mr. Bleyle fronts the wonderful, fantastical, bilingual, fruit conscious musical ensemble,
 APPLE BRAINS
If you are looking for the perfect gift for the holiday season look no further...

The Tape Project 2

The Tape Project was our very first post at WE-MAKE-MARKS. Join us for our second go round. This time we started with a white canvas and black tape. We noticed that with just the black on white our project would resemble a drawing like we were used to making at home or in class :)

Our Artist of the Week, William Onyeabor (Nigeria, 1970's)

Day One.

Day Two.

After we completed our large "drawing" in the previous class we took a good long look at what we had made and then received a smaller copy of our own to finish as we pleased...

Then we turned them into larger paintings....

Day Three.

When we returned to the large drawing we added colored tape together. This time we made sure to only take what we could carry in order to avoid destroying our materials...

Day Four.

Even though we were all very happy with our drawing after we added color, we added MORE color and sealed it all in with a nice coat of mod-podge!

Until next time!
